Josh Waters - Actuarial
I am the student actuary responsible for technical pricing. I am coming up to my one year anniversary at Partnership.
As an expanding company we have the culture of a smaller company, but the opportunities that come in a larger one – the best of both worlds! Training to be an actuary is a major commitment but at Partnership we have a competitive study support package to help you through. There are pay rises when you pass exams, lots of peer support and typically a day out of the office a week for study. We are also right in the centre of London next to Leadenhall Market and the Monument on Pudding Lane – where the great fire of London started.
I joined the pricing team after graduating in 2008. One of my first responsibilities was to report on the profit margins that we expect to make in the coming week. Since then I have worked with other departments to help launch new products, improved processes to make them faster or more sophisticated and passed five of the actuarial exams. I am currently helping to implement a proposal we made to our reinsurers and to build a new model of one of our products.
In my second month I had the opportunity to meet with the CEO and heads of department and observe a discussion on pricing strategy. I enjoyed the early exposure to high level discussions and it was satisfying to see how the report that I had helped to produce affected the business.
