Perfect partners make the community a safer place to live and work
Partnership, the London and Redhill-based specialist provider of financial solutions for people with health/ lifestyle conditions, as well as those suffering from a serious medical impairment, has teamed up with St John Ambulance to help make Surrey a safer place.
The company has donated £3,000 to St John Community First Responders to put towards the cost of life saving equipment such as defibrillators. As a thank you for its generosity, on Tuesday Sept 7, a team of responders went to its offices in Regent House, Queensway, and trained members of the Partnership staff in life saving first aid.
St John First Responders are highly trained volunteer first aiders who are on call in their local areas. They are paged by the NHS Ambulance Control if there is an emergency close by and they can be on the scene within a few minutes, assessing the casualty and starting treatment while the ambulance is still on its way.
Since the scheme was launched in 2006, responders have treated 1,832 casualties.
The speed of response to a 999 call is critical, especially in the case of a cardiac arrest. First Responders are able to start resuscitation procedures very quickly, greatly increasing the chance of survival. They carry defibrillators with them and this equipment coupled with their training, enables them to save lives.
They work in partnership with South East Coast Ambulance Service and when the ambulance crew arrives at the scene, they are able to give a detailed account of the patient and carry on with resuscitation or treatment under the crew’s instruction, often accompanying the casualty to hospital.
“All our funding comes from public donations,” explained Craig Chitty, St John Surrey Staff Officer for Community First Responders.
“We are deeply grateful to companies like Partnership for their support. Equipment is expensive but it means we can save lives. The more trained responders there are on call across the county, the safer the public will be.
“We are delighted that Partnership staff have shown an interest in first aid training and it was brilliant being able to show them life-saving resuscitation techniques.”
Commenting on Partnership’s donation, Jane Kennedy, Chief Operating Officer, said: “Partnership is a specialist provider of financial solutions for people with health/ lifestyle conditions, as well as those suffering from a serious medical impairment. Accordingly, we are delighted to support the important work of St John Community First Responders in Surrey, while contributing to the community in which we operate our business”.
